Thomas the tank engine night dress

My son is a fan of Thomas & friends. All of his stuff is from the Thomas & friends line. The only problem was that I could find only find Thomas sleepwear for him in flannel and he found it uncomfortable to wear it to bed during summmer. So I promised him that I would sew one in cotton, that he could wear to bed during the warm summer nights(little did I know how much time and effort it would take to complete this task). But finally it is done now and my son couldn't be any more happier.


The pattern was a newlook pattern for kids. I wanted to embellish his shirt somehow so I used the feather stich to topstitch the neck and sleeves. Also I skipped the drawstring for the pants and used the tunnel method to attach elastic. Overall it was a fun and satisfying project.

Finally a BIG thank you to my mom and my husband for taking care of the kids and housework so that I could finish this project.

T shirt to PJ bottoms

My son is at home for the summer and one of his favorite things to do is play with his sand toys and water on the patio. The problem was that he would get his pants wet but his t shirt would remain dry, and he would run out of pants to wear before the laundry was done. I had been looking for easy and inexpensive solution to this problem.

While folding the family laundry this week, I noticed that if I took off the sleeves of my husband's t shirts, the width of the shoulder and the armhole opening was exactly what I needed for the crotch part for my son's pajama bottoms. The picture is of the completed project. I will post the steps to this project later.

I DID IT...My first dress

Whether its learning to read, ride a bike or crack an egg to make brownies, my four year old son screams "I DID IT" with such happiness and pride every time he masters the task. That is how I felt after completing my very first complete sewing project.

The dress is a salwar kameez, which is essentially a tunic with pants. I searched high and low for a pattern but could not find one,then I found a tutorial on Youtube for the salwar(pants). I made the top by borrowing one of my niece's dresses from my sister and cut out the fabric to size.

The sewing on the dress is not perfect yet, I did not have matching thread and I had major trouble getting the upper thread tension just right to sew on the machine, but in the end I wanted to finish the project and I just did it.

Hello everyone,

I am a busy mom to two wonderful kids, wife and a former software professional. I have been interested in sewing and embroidery and have always wanted to learn to sew my own clothes.

My earlier attempts at sewing were limited to just mending garments and doing patch up jobs.I am attempting to teach myself to sew complete garments, mostly by reading and watching YouTube.

I am creating this blog to keep myself motivated and share my projects and ideas with other sewers.
